FFA makes a positive difference in lives of more than 450,000 young people by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. You can find FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. From floriculture to genetic engineering and raising crops or animals to marketing, there are more than 300 diverse careers in agriculture.

FFA History and Facts

The FFA is a national agriculture organization for high school and college students participating in agriculture education. The FFA provides more than just agriculture education. It develops leadership qualities, speaking skills, and career preparation. By becoming a member, you can have the oppurtunity to participate in fundraisers, speaking contests, judging teams, and you get to travel the country and meet new people. Plus a whole lot of other fun and exciting things.

The National FFA Organization has 455,306 members and 7,226 chapters nationwide, making it the largest youth organization in America

The Future Farmers of America was started in 1928 with 33 members from 18 states

The site for the FFA National Convention was determined to be Kansas City

Leslie Applegate was the first national president

In 1929, the official creed and colors, national blue and corn gold, were adopted

The FFA was federally chartered in 1950

The national FFA headquarters is found in Indeannapolis, Indiana

2 of the FFA's top 3 executives are employed by the U.S. Department of Education

In 1988, the name Future Farmers of America was changed to the National FFA Organization, to show the expanding field of agriculture beyond farming

In 1999, the national convention, for the first time, was held in Louisville, KY instead of Kansas City
